Federal judge denies temporary restraining order in Tennessee and Virginia NIL case vs. NCAA

Federal Judge Clifton L. Corker denied a temporary restraining order in Tennessee’s and Virginia’s NIL case against the NCAA on Tuesday in the Eastern District of Tennessee, according to multiple reports. The pair of states were seeking an interim stop to the NCAA’s name, image and likeness rules for college athletes.

Corker’s ruling comes after the attorneys general in Tennessee and Virginia filed a lawsuit against the NCAA on Wednesday. Corker claims that the states “failed to demonstrate, at this juncture, the requisite irreparable harm for the issuance of a (temporary restraining order).”

The NCAA’s rules will remain in place as a result of the ruling. It would have only impacted recruits in Tennessee and Virginia.
