McCurdy: Like it or not, pro high school players likely a reality

Allow me to be an annoying told-you-so for a moment.

Give me a chance to take a victory lap, pat myself on the back, do a mic drop.

In August, I wrote a column predicting that someday there would be professional high school athletes. With the NCAA caving over the summer by allowing its athletes to profit from name, image and likeness deals, amateurism died in college.

It was still a pillar on which high school athletics stood, but that pillar had cracks and wasn’t structurally safe anymore. Amateurism was going to fall apart in the prep sports world, too.
