Nevada is now the 28th State to allow for Name, Image, and Likeness as the High School Level
As of today, the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) has approved the new language for NIL making Nevada the 28th state to allow Name, Image, and Likeness at the highschool level. The language is waiting for implementation by the Nevada State Legislature, but it states that “a pupil specified in subsection 1 (an amateur) who accepts a fee for providing instruction for or supervising or officiating an organized program of sports or recreation for a minor does not, by accepting the fee, forfeit his or her status as an amateur in a sanctioned sport.”
This revision to the bylaws will allow student-athletes to participate in NIL deals and opportunities in Nevada without jeopardizing their eligibility. This language specifies additional parameters and details that can be found under NAC 385B.374 Participation of pupil as amateur in sanctioned sport.
Like many other states that have passed new NIL policy at the high school level, some restrictions include promotional activity relating to adult entertainment, tobacco, cannabis, controlled substances, and weapons and gambling.
