New NIL guidelines don’t do much to rattle Texas

Last Thursday, ascendant running back Bijan Robinson announced a new partnership with Lamborghini Austin. To celebrate, the face of Texas football sent out a picture of himself sitting in the passenger seat of a jet-black Lambo to more than 150,000 combined Twitter and Instagram followers.
Four days later, the NCAA Division I Board of Directors issued new name, image and likeness (NIL) “guidance” to its member schools. The nascent task force attempted to clarify the definition of a booster while drawing a link to the nonprofit NIL collectives that have sprung up around the nation — 10 long months after the NCAA’s NIL policy allowing student-athletes to be compensated went into effect.
