It’s official! Oklahoma’s next on the list!

Yesterday morning the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) passed new guidelines to allow high school student-athletes to monetize their Name, Image, and Likeness making Oklahoma the 18th state to approve NIL at the high school level. The Board voted unanimously 12-0 to approve the new guidance.

While the new guidelines allow for students to participate in NIL opportunities, similar to the other states that have passed new NIL language, guard rails were also set in place. Students are not permitted to appear in any school uniform or wear any school logos or “marks” during the promotional activity. School facilities are also not allowed to be involved in the compensation of the NIL activity, and any promotional activities that are in conflict with a member school’s local school district policy, such as tobacco or alcohol related endorsements, are not permitted.
