Sen. Tommy Tuberville attributes Nick Saban’s retirement to NIL, warns ‘worst may be to come’

“Coach Saban’s retirement is a big loss for football fans, but the worst may be to come,” said Tuberville. “As Colorado’s Coach Deion Sanders put it, ‘The game has changed so much that it chased the GOAT away.’”

“Coach Prime is right,” continued Tuberville. “Ever since the Supreme Court ruled that student-athletes could be paid for the use of their name, image, and likeness (NIL), we have been in a brave new world for college athletics.”

Tuberville says that his problem is not with the actual concept of NIL but the lack of a national standard, citing conflicting laws that have been passed or proposed in over three dozen states.
